Education, Community, and Family
- In most African villages, family members and other villagers carried out education. Children learned only the things they needed to be an adult and history on their people. In West Africa, griots, or storytellers, helped with the schooling. They told stories about their history, in what was said to be "oral history". Those stories were passed down generation by generation. Short lessons on proverbs were also given.

- The tribe called the Bantu is nomadic people. They take fishing canoes and move from place to place. The Bantu traveled slowly, and in different directions. Some up the river, some down the river. Some went left at forks and some went right. They sometimes met up with other people of their tribe, but it was rare.
